The Lunar New Year is one of my favorite holidays. I love the family getting together and huge meals. I also look forward to the Chinese New Year Parade that happens every year in the city. Even Birdie’s school does a little something for it. Last year was a huge assembly. This year, we did a parade. It was a lot of fun. Cold and wet – but we made it work.
I’ve been wearing Poppet Slings’ Soho ring sling during the festivities because it’s he perfect shade of red. I make sure the kids are always wearing red – for good luck.
We made a huge meal for Chinese New Year and it was fun having everyone together. It was a giant mess, trying to get all the ingredients and what not – but we do this every year. You’d think we’d know better and start early or something – of course not.
We had Peking duck, steamed whole fish, Buddha’s Delight, White cut chicken and longevity noodles. We also put out a plate of fruit. Duck – fidelity. Fish – abundance. Buddha’s Delight – a vegetable plate because no animal or fish should be killed in the first day of the New Year. Whole chicken – prosperity. Noodles – longevity (don’t cut them!).
I can’t wait to keep celebrating for the next couple of weeks and then we get to check out the parade. Expect to see more photos on my Instagram.
